Queering the Patriarchal Family and Moving Toward Balanced Relationships With the Natural World in The Color Purple

Spring 2021

My English senior thesis analyzes Alice Walker's The Color Purple. It looks at how in the novel, moving toward a queer, nonhierarchical family structure is paralleled with a healing of relationships with the natural world.

Health Impacts of Fracking in Canonsburg PA

Fall 2020

In my senior Environmental Studies seminar titled "Understanding the Human Place in Nature," I created a video project on the health impacts of fracking in Canonsburg, PA. There has been a cluster of childhood cancer cases thought to be linked to fracking. I spoke with community members about anti-fracking activism in the area, and how their work challenges traditional definitions of environmentalism.
